We’ve all been there. Work, home, eat, sleep, rinse, repeat. On the weekends we’re so tired that we end up just wanting to relax. Maybe we go to our favorite brunch spot, walk the same paths we always do, shop in the same stores, do our weekly grocery shop, then get ready for the week again.

One of the nice things about working from home is having the flexibility to shake up that routine. I’ve got the freedom to choose my hours, choose which days I work and which I don’t. The only problem is, I almost never do.

I wake up, have coffee, check my emails, have breakfast, do some work. Then Luke and I will go for a walk or do some exercise. Then we have lunch, then back to work until the evening. Then eat dinner, cabbage in front of the TV, go to bed, repeat.

It’s one of reasons I move so much I think. I know I’m prone to monotony and I can’t stand it, yet I can never manage to avoid it. So instead of simply shaking it up, I start again somewhere else.

Just before Christmas, I found a cool kickstarter business on Twitter called Trifle with Life . They make a day planner that dares you to break the cycle. I was intrigued.

That’s the first thing I read about the company. I instantly wanted to stand up and do something interesting, something fun. It reminded me why I travel and made me wonder why I’m entirely unable to keep that mindset when I’m no longer on the road.

It’s as simple as choosing something from the calendar and slotting it into your day. They are easy, but they’re things that can shake up your day, make you smile, and perhaps make someone else smile, too.

You know I’m all about this one, especially in Sheffield ;)

Some I’m looking forward to trying out are Talk to a Familiar Stranger and Paint a Self Portrait . Both seem like pretty straight forward things, but they will both put me wildly out of my comfort zone – exactly the fix I seek when I head off to a new country.

This one is going to be a struggle, but I’d love to do it for an ENTIRE day.

I’ve got the Rubik’s cube, but boy are these little suckers hard to solve.

I love that they all come with hashtags so that you can see what other people have been doing to complete the tasks. Perhaps you can find others who can commiserate with trying to get out of their routine and shake things up.

Sometimes we all need a little reminder to keep life interesting. What have you got to lose?

Thanks to Trifle with Life for gifting me this planner. All opinions and life trifling are my own. If you’d like to purchase a planner, you can do so here.

Reply Danielle Fenton January 25, 2016 at 9:32 AM I love this!! It sounds like such a lovely, different way of doing things, especially if one of the items on the calendar are a big challenge! I might have to look into getting one Dani x Simply Courageous Reply Laura Bronner January 27, 2016 at 6:26 PM I recommend it! It’s a really fun way to vary things up
